ENDURANCE RIDING
Endurance or long-distance riding is a race of between 40- 160 km in one day against the clock over all types of terrain. With regular veterinary checks the horse/rider combination that finishes first in good conditions is the winner.
In 1978 the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) recognized it as an international sport. Now over 353 FEI endurance competitions are held in over 49 countries worldwide.
Endurance is the fastest growing discipline in the horse world. The fact that the race runs through different types of surfaces and natural environment makes the sport even more challenging and amazing.
Andalusia is the ideal place for practicing this sport for its many days of sunshine a year, the beauty of its landscape and its equestrian heritage.
Every year more endurance riding is organised in the provinces of Malaga and Cadiz and they all take place in beautiful nature spots, where access is dificult unless it is on horseback.
Andalusian Endurance season is from October to June.
The equestrian raid AL-ANDALUS
It is considered the most challenging, beautiful and hardest equestrian endurance competition in the world, and it is also known as the equestrian Dakar.
For one week, the race circuit runs along Andalusian protected enclaves of great beauty, like Doñana National Park, Los Alcornocales Natural park, the mountains of Andujar ... In the sixth edition of 2011 there was a 14- mile urban route through the centre of Seville, riding next to emblematic places such the Cathedral, Torre del Oro or Maria Luisa Park.
After 6 editions being celebrated, in 2012 the Al- Andalus had to be suspended due to the complicated economic situation. We will be there when it comes back.
